PGP is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pontrilas Timber and Builders' Merchants Ltd.
Sawmills
We are one of the largest sawmill groups in Britain with an investment of over £6m in the latest Scandinavian equipment and technology in the last 10 years. We have recently completed a further £3.5m development to ensure we remain at the forefront of efficiency and technology, particularly in our ability to produce pallet sets. A further project to improve yield and increase throughput has just been agreed by the board, resulting in a £3m investment for 2008/9.
Timber
PGP has a guaranteed supply of timber for pallet and case making from our own Softwood and Hardwood Sawmills. PGP is also a large importer of timber, but never has a problem 'when the boat doesn't turn up' or because the 'Baltic is frozen over'. During recent shortages of timber our customers were not affected at all. Pontrilas Timber can cut virtually any size required and is competitive with imports.
Kilns
Pontrilas Timber has invested over £1.5m in computerised kilns for kiln drying timber and Heat Treating to ISPM15. No other packaging company has facilities of this scale at their disposal because it would not be possible to justify the expenditure without the existence of a large sawmill.
Pressure Treatment Plant
PGP has the use of the 'Tanalising' plant at the sawmills for pressure impregnation to Australian and New Zealand import regulations. This is also useful for the preservation of multi-use pallets.
Transport Fleet
Pontrilas has 15 Artics and several other vehicles that deliver timber and collect logs all over England and Wales. This fleet is at the disposal of PGP to deliver products to customers and collect timber from the docks. We offer a national delivery service.
Timber & Builders' Merchants
This division stocks everything you might expect a well stocked timber and builders' merchants to hold. Its biggest benefit to PGP is the buying power and ability to directly import Plywood, MDF, Chipboard, OSB and all other board products used in pallets and cases.
FSC
All timber supplied by Pontrilas Timber is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, which means it is guaranteed to be sustainable and from environmentally friendly sources.
The Environment
The Pontrilas Group takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously. All our waste wood is recycled and processed into chip board. We are currently applying for planning permission for a 10MW Green Energy Power Plant to produce electricity for our own use and for the National Grid.
And Finally...
PGP is a large and successful packaging company derived from and very much part of the Pontrilas Group, which has facilities available which are essential to PGP customers.
